SRO joins the memory of the world

In 2000, Australia was the first country to establish a Memory of the World program with UNESCO with the vision that the world's documentary heritage belongs to everyone.  The program has since grown to include more than 60 countries and an extraordinary variety of documents illustrating the story of humankind which will remain preserved, protected and permanently accessible to all.

Hollywood came to the SRO in September with the crew from SBS hit series Who Do You Think You Are spotted in the Search Room and behind-the-scenes in the archives stacks filming two episodes for its upcoming series, to be released in the first half of 2012

ScreenWest publishes an article about 'Eating the Archives'

ScreenWest has published an article in its online newsletter about the innovative nature of SRO's Eating the Archives event and online exhibition. The article points out that the Eating the Archives luncheon event and online exhibition is the first program of its kind to be presented by SRO and will enable the SRO's aim of active engagement with the community in the 21st century.

behind the scenesThe State Records Office of Western Australia has been host to a number of film crews recently. It’s been exciting to get some of our stories onto this “new” media, and we hope that it makes people think of Archives as living places, rather than documents that are in storage.
