An Appetite for Archives

Hadleigh's foodWith less than two weeks until I host the Eating the Archives event as part of the 2011 Commonwealth Festival, appetites are building at the State Records Office. On Friday afternoon I visited chef Hadleigh Troy at his award-winning Restaurant Amusé in East Perth to watch a photoshoot of the fabulous dishes he has created for Eating the Archives. Hadleigh’s menu, inspired by meals served over the past hundred years at royal banquets and other State occasions, is simply stunning! His creations provide a modern twist on our archival past and would be worthy of a State banquet in any century.

While we’re not able to show you any of the mystery dishes he’ll be serving to our guests just yet – Hadleigh is keeping his creations under wraps until the luncheon on the 28th of October - you can visit Restaurant Amusé’s website to get an idea of the amazing dishes he serves. You can also visit our online exhibition and compare menus from 1920 or 1954 with the elegant creations of a modern West Australian chef, like the one shown here.

For one final chance to eat your way into history at Eating the Archives, 720 ABC Perth is running a competition to give away the remaining places at our table. Details can be found on the 720 website.
