Reference Queries

reference queriesThe State Records Office offers a limited reference query service to clients who live in regional areas, interstate or overseas and are thus unable to attend the Search Room in person. Researchers living in the Perth metropolitan area must visit the SRO’s Search Room unless their travel is restricted by disability. Other queries may be submitted via telephone, post or e-mail.

The SRO can only undertake straightforward research for reference queries that require no more than 30 minutes staff research time to answer. For protracted queries, we suggest liaising with an independent researcher. The contact details for researchers who specialise in undertaking complex information queries can be found in our Information Sheet on Research Assistance.

Response time to reference queries will vary depending on the complexity of the enquiry.

Queries can be forwarded:

by e-mail to
by post to:
State Records Office
Alexander Library Building
Perth Cultural centre

All queries should be marked for the attention of the Archives Research Officer. Please include a name, email address and telephone number so staff can contact you if necessary.
