Cabinet papers releases of previous years
Each year, the State Records Office releases the records of State Cabinet from their 30 year access embargo. This event symbolises the important democratic principle of community access to the public record.
State Cabinet records are historically significant papers which record the decisions made by the government of the day. Such decisions affect the lives of all West Australians, present and future. Cabinet records are the primary-source documents for information about all of the issues raised at Cabinet meetings.

State Records Commission - State Records Award 2007
As last year, all State government organizations were invited by the State Records Office to nominate for the State Records Commission State Records Award which is an Institute of Public Administration Australia (IPAA) special Sponsored W S Lonnie Award.
This year eighteen nominations were received, an increase of 50% from last year.
The reports were assessed by an independent judging panel against the SRC minimum compliance requirements of SRC Standard 2, Principle 6 which stipulate that a government organization includes within its annual report an appropriate section that addresses the following items:
- the efficiency and effectiveness of the agency's recordkeeping systems are evaluated not less than once every five years;
- the agency conducts a recordkeeping training program;
- the efficiency and effectiveness of the recordkeeping training program are reviewed from time to time;
- the agency's induction program addresses employees' roles and responsibilities in regard to their compliance with the agency's recordkeeping plan.
At the IPAA W S Lonnie Awards dinner on 26 June, Cathrin Cassarchis, Director of State Records, was delighted to announce the Department of the Attorney General as the recipient of the State Records Award.
The Department impressed the judging panel by clearly addressing the judging criteria, giving a concise but excellent description of their recordkeeping training and induction courses for their staff, and by providing quantitative information to support their statements.
Two special commendations were awarded to Botanic Gardens and Parks Authority and the C Y O’Connor College of TAFE for the quality of their submissions.
We extend our congratulations to all.
