State Records Advisory Committee (SRAC)

 

Under section 62 of the State Records Act 2000 the State Records Commission established the State Records Advisory Committee to advise it about State records that should be State archives, the retention periods for those State records that are not to be State archives, and associated matters.

The Committee reviews Retention and Disposal Schedules (the retention and disposal component of the Recordkeping Plan) submitted by government organisations. The Committee may also review Ad Hoc Disposal Authorities. Disposal recommendations passed by the Committee are forwarded to the State Records Commission for approval.

Membership of the Committee includes "representatives from the Public Service and bodies concerned with record keeping", as stipulated in the Act. Appointment of members and deputies to the Committee is on the basis of rotating terms of 2 years (existing Standing Committee on Public Records members) and 3 years (new appointments).
