General Disposal Authority for Local Government Records- Review Survey
The State Records Office of WA (SRO) is conducting a review of the current GDALG (1999). The first phase of the process is to conduct a survey of the coverage and applicability of the current GDALG.
The Survey comprises three (3) parts:
Part 1: Suggested changes to retention and / or disposal decisions
List any retention and disposal decisions in the current GDALG which you believe should be changed. If any, provide the suggested amendment and the reason(s) for it.
Part 2: Records not covered by the GDALG
List any categories of records your organization holds which are not covered in the current GDALG. Include:
- A brief description of the records;
- The suggested retention and disposal action for the records and the reasons (if any) for it, for example, Regulations, policy; and
- The classification or file titling used for the records.
Part 3: Other questions and comments
This part provides an opportunity for you to register your interest in being on the working group to consider drafts of the new GDALG, as well as comment on other aspects of the current GDALG.
The Survey can be downloaded as a Microsoft Word (50kb) document here.
We ask that all local government records officers take the time to complete the survey and email the completed survey to Martin.Fordham@sro.wa.gov.au at the SRO or by fax on 9427 3368 by Friday 10 October 2008.
The second phase of the review will include the SRO considering all responses to the survey, preparing a draft of the new GDALG and establishing a small working group of local government records officers to consider the new draft.
We look forward to working with local government authorities to provide an up-to-date, useful and comprehensive disposal authority for local government records.
If you have any queries regarding the GDALG Review Survey please contact Martin Fordham via email or by phone on 9427 3363.
