Perth Metro Plans Project

The State Records Office has been digitising and geo-referencing Perth's historical Sewerage Plans to provide a fresh perspective on the past hundred years of metropolitan development. Thanks to this new initiative, architects, town planners, home owners and general researchers will be able to approach the information in these plans - which document the growth of the city and often lost parts of Perth - from a completely different angle.

One giant step for SRO

This week we launch our new Archives management system, based on the Canadian software Accesstomemory (AtoM).  When you click on the ‘search our archives catalogue’ button on our home page, it’s one small click for you, but a giant step for SRO.We first developed a computer catalogue in 1986 using a Sun database, but it was for internal use only.  In 2004, we were able to take up the Microsoft based system developed for the State Records Office in New South Wales. Winner of 2015 Margaret Medcalf Award announced

We are thilled to announce that Dr Kerry King is the winner of the 2015 Margaret Medcalf Award with her PhD thesis: A lesser species of homicide - manslaughter, negligent and dangerous driving causing death: the prosecution of drivers in Western Australia, 1946-2011. Dr King's PhD thesis, explores the highly charged subject of manslaughter and negligent and dangerous driving causing death in Western Australia and is this year’s winner of the Margaret Medcalf Award.

A financial institutions duty on bank deposits; Aboriginal land rights; equal employment opportunity legislation outlawing discrimination in the workplace on the grounds of sex, marital status, pregnancy, race, religious or political conviction; the abolition of the death penalty; and the banning of ‘X’ rated material, were issues considered by WA’s State Cabinet in 1984.
