From January 2016 the SRO will be trialling new digitisation services and implementing new retrieval times for SRO clients.
In recent times there has been a growing demand for digitisation of State archives for reference and research. To meet this demand the SRO will trial the digitisation of entire files and other relevant archival materials in the State archives collection for clients at a cost. Not all State archives will be available for digitisation; such as those archives with restricted access status, those which are too fragile, and archives in a format which is unable to be digitised.
From 11 January 2016 clients will be able to apply for the digitisation of State archives, providing Consignment and Item details for each State archive requested. These archives will then be assessed by SRO staff to establish their appropriateness for digitisation. If deemed suitable, once payment has been received the SRO will endeavour to provide digitised copies of archives within 20 working days. During the trial period digitised archives will be provided on CD to clients, with a view to uploading appropriate digitised copies to our online catalogue in the longer term.
You will have to apply to digitise approved State archives by completing a Digitisation Application Form which will be available in 2016. You will also be able to pay for this new service online, once the digitisation application has been approved. If you have questions about this new service please email email@example.com or telephone the SRO’s Search Room on (08) 94273600.

Changes to Retrieval Services
To support the SRO’s new digitisation service, from 4 January 2016 there are 2 retrievals to the SRO’s Search Room (from 3 October from Tuesday to Friday) for State archives held onsite in the Alexander Library Building – a retrieval occurring in the morning before our opening time at 10am, and another at 12pm, with archives available at 1pm. Retrieval of State archives located in our off-site repository (e.g. most maps and plans, and most Consignment numbers greater than 5237) will continue to be retrieved on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings. These records will be available by 10.30am of the same morning retrieved.
There is a limit of 5 items per client per retrieval for records held onsite, and up to 10 items per client per retrieval for records held offsite.
