Copying Of Archives
The copying of original archival materials from the State Records Office collection is permitted under certain circumstances. Clients should be aware that permission to copy original material must be sought from State Records Office Enquiry Desk staff in the first instance, and that State Records Office staff retain the right to refuse permission to copy original materials. All copying is subject to the Copyright Act.
The following methods for copying original materials are available to researchers:
Photographing by Researchers
Digital cameras are encouraged by the State Records Office, on the condition that the flash button is turned off. For clients who do not own a digital camera, a camera is available in the search room. Digital images can either be burnt onto a CD or saved to a thumb drive.
State Records Office staff can advise clients further on this matter.
Photographic Negatives
Where photocopying is not possible clients may have the option of obtaining a photographic or hard line negative. From the photographic negative the client can arrange for the creation of photographic prints. Photographic negatives are high quality images suitable for publication.
Scanning of Maps and Plans
A digital scanning service is offered for clients wishing to obtain quality copies of oversized materials such as maps and plans.
Microfilm reader prints
Records that are available on microfilm or microfiche may either be copied using the self-service reader printers or digital scans from microfilm can be saved to your thumb drive.
In all instances permission to copy original materials must be sought from State Records Office staff.
