UNESCO adopts the Universal Declaration on Archives

On 7th November 2011 the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) adopted the Universal Declaration on Archives, proposed by the International Congress of Archives. It is the culmination of intense efforts led by Papa Momar Diop, the Ambassador of Senegal at UNESCO and the former National Archivist of Senegal, supported by Jens Boel, Head Archivist at UNESCO, and activists in the ICA network throughout the world.

National Recycling Week - Recycle Responsibly

National Recycling Week - Responsible Recycling for ‘Friday File Fling’   National Recycling Week (7-13 November) is now only two short weeks away.  The State Records Office of Western Australia has identified that the Week represents an ideal opportunity to raise the profile of records management and, in particular, Retention and Disposal Schedules with staff and management of government organisations.

Excitement is building for the Eating the Archives luncheon on 28th October 2011 - one of the highlights of the Commonwealth Festival Perth 2011 program.  Staff are making energetic preparations to the sound of Just Sax, one of Perth's best young saxophone quartets, who will be providing the live music for the event.

 

'Eating the Archives' at the Perth Royal Show

Perth Royal Show visitors will have the chance to enter a draw for a place at the Eating the Archives luncheon on 28 October 2011 - one of the highlights of the Commonwealth Festival Perth 2011 program. A promotional bookmark indicating the Eating the Archives website and also with a Quick Response (QR) code to direct those with smart phones to information about the event has been produced and is available at the the Department of Agriculture and Food display in the Centenary Pavilion at this week’s Perth Royal Show.

Hollywood came to the SRO in September with the crew from SBS hit series Who Do You Think You Are spotted in the Search Room and behind-the-scenes in the archives stacks filming two episodes for its upcoming series, to be released in the first half of 2012

ScreenWest publishes an article about 'Eating the Archives'

ScreenWest has published an article in its online newsletter about the innovative nature of SRO's Eating the Archives event and online exhibition. The article points out that the Eating the Archives luncheon event and online exhibition is the first program of its kind to be presented by SRO and will enable the SRO's aim of active engagement with the community in the 21st century.
